We were importers and indenting agents of essential agricultural products for the Sri Lankan market operating under the name and style of MRM MUTTIAH CHETTIAR, 90 Sea street, Colombo. This Company was established in 1946. Late Mr. T.Muttiah Chettiar was the father of Mr. Muthiah Thenappan (MV Enterprises) was the proprietor of MRM Muttiah Chettiar.

The Company was importing onions, potatoes, coriander seeds, chillies, and pulses such as green gram, black gram, toor dal, red lentils, etc., including dry fruits like dates and raisins from various countries which included Egypt, Lebanon, Cyprus, Malta, Italy, France, Holland, Iraq, Iran, Rumania, Bulgaria, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

We were representing the exporters in almost all those countries exclusively for marketing in Sri Lanka (Columbo). Our Bankers then were The Eastern Bank Limited, Colombo, which later got merged with Chartered Bank.

As the first Indian firm as direct importers and intending agents in Colombo commencing from 1946, with large contacts all over the world, we did business in organising supplies of sugar and also flour to Sri Lanka. We had a sound banking support and also clientele in Colombo and agencies abroad.
