Description :
The All India Co-ordinated Research Project (Sugarcane) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has recognized Rajshree Sugars & Chemicals Limited as a co-operating centre for testing sugarcane varieties for release. After extensive field trials, varieties with higher yields and sucrose content than local varieties are identified. These varieties are non-flowering and also possess resistance to soil moisture, stress, pests and diseases.
Since seed multiplication in a vegetatively propagated crop like sugarcane is very low (1 to 10), it would normally take 5-6 years to exploit the potential of an identified variety.
